Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

A flexible sigmoidoscopy is a procedure that uses a sigmoidscope to view the inside lining of the rectum and lower section of the colon. A sigmoidscope consists of a thin, long tube that has a light and a viewing instrument. It allows examination of the inside of the rectum and lower colon for cancer, polyps, and medical conditions. A tissue sample or biopsy may be taken as well. A flexible sigmoidoscopy is an outpatient procedure performed at Pacific Coast Digestive Health that does not require anesthesia or sedation.
